About  Soulmates & Sawdust

Shortly after their move from Florida to Tennessee in 2016, and at the height of their careers in healthcare, Bill and Pam, owners and founders of Soulmates and Sawdust, decided to start a side hustle. For the next two years, the couple would continue to work their fulltime jobs as a Respiratory Therapist and a Registered Nurse and in their “spare time” they would build, paint, and create furniture and crafts. The side hustle quickly became their main hustle and they found themselves ultimately consumed with trying to find more time to satisfy their desire to be creative. In 2018, they left long and rewarding careers in healthcare to pursue an unchartered and unfamiliar path of entrepreneurship. As a Respiratory Therapist and Registered Nurse, with over 50 years of combined experience, the couple felt an unexpected calling to serve their community in a different way. It wasn’t until late 2022 that they realized this new calling was spiritually led and could not be ignored nor denied, despite the many hardships that they would encounter. While the journey began in 2018, it continues even today.

As a lifelong woodworker and carpenter, Bill longed for a dedicated space to work his craft. When he and his wife moved from Florida to Tennessee in 2016, that dream became a reality. The property had a 1600 SF workshop! Once he hung up his stethoscope and scrubs for good, he quickly began filling up his new space with all the tools of his trade. He got right to work building a farm table for the dining area in their new home.  He built it, and Pam painted it. That farm table was the start of a new path in life. Little did they know, in a few months they would have a small booth in a local antique shop where they would sell small items that they made or curated. That small booth turned into a larger booth, and that larger booth turned into an even bigger surprise in May 2018 when they both quit their “real” jobs and took on a lease in a historic home in Spring Hill, TN. That building would be their first brick and mortar store, but it wouldn’t be their last. The uphill challenges of being small business owners came fast and furious. In the next four years they would have three different locations in Spring Hill. Each time they moved it was like starting over. In 2022 they suffered a financial devastation that would make them question not only their business goals, but also their faith in God’s plan for them. It was this loss that allowed His voice to be heard with clarity. Instead of using the business to meet their own needs they would use it to bring glory to God.

In late 2023 the Lord revealed a mission statement for Soulmates and Sawdust -  To glorify God by being faithful, trustworthy, and reliable stewards of all that is put in our care. To demonstrate the love of God by loving people and using our God-given gifts to create products that inspire others to love Jesus.
